Unit 09 · September
Trees, Forests & Roots
Planted by streams of water
Scripture & Jesus with us
“They will be like a tree planted by streams of water.”
— Psalm 1:3A life rooted in God’s Word is not easily blown over.
“Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord… They will be like a tree planted by the water.”
— Jeremiah 17:7–8Trust is a root, not a feeling only.
“Rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith.”
— Colossians 2:6–7We grow in Jesus the way a tree grows — slowly, deeply.
Three-class breakdown
Class 1 — Wonder & Observation
Look at bark, leaves, and (if possible) roots. Hug a tree. Count rings on a stump picture.
Class 2 — Scripture & Teaching
Psalm 1. Roots we cannot see hold the tree we can see. Same with a family in the Word.
Class 3 — Creation Response
Begin a Rooted Tree Study — one tree to visit all month, sketched and prayed over.
Signature take-home
Rooted Tree Study
- Choose one tree near home or a quiet outdoor place you can visit.
- Visit weekly. Sketch the trunk, one leaf, and the ground around it.
- Water it if it is young and allowed.
- Read Psalm 1 beside it once.
Parent tips
Ask: “What helps us grow deep roots when the wind blows?” Point to Jesus, not to trying harder.
Journal: Tree name (even a made-up one), date, one root-prayer.
