Unit 08 · August

Harvest & Provision

Give us this day our daily bread

Scripture & Jesus with us

“The Lord your God is bringing you into a good land… When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord.”

— Deuteronomy 8:7–10

Harvest is a time to remember the Giver, not only the gift.

“Give us today our daily bread.”

— Matthew 6:11

Jesus teaches us to ask for enough for today, with trust.

“You care for the land and water it… You crown the year with your bounty.”

— Psalm 65:9–11

God is still the One who crowns the year.

Three-class breakdown

Class 1 — Wonder & Observation

Taste (if safe) or smell a fruit, grain, or herb. “Who planted this? Who sent the rain?”

Class 2 — Scripture & Teaching

Daily bread. Jesus fed people and still teaches us to pray for enough. Gratitude before grabbing.

Class 3 — Creation Response

Assemble a First Fruits Basket — a small share of produce or pantry goods to give away.

Signature take-home

First Fruits Basket

  1. Choose a small basket or bag.
  2. Add one thing you grew, bought, or baked.
  3. Pray over it.
  4. Give it to a neighbor or a family in need.

Parent tips

Let the child help choose the gift. Talk about God providing before we ever planted.
