Unit 07 · July
Sun, Light & Energy
The Light of the World
Scripture & Jesus with us
“God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light.”
— Genesis 1:3–4Light is the first gift. It is not random.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness.”
— John 8:12Jesus is not a lamp we switch on. He is the Light we follow.
“The sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays.”
— Malachi 4:2God’s coming is like sunrise — warmth and healing, not scare.
Three-class breakdown
Class 1 — Wonder & Observation
Feel sun on skin (never stare at the sun). Watch a plant lean toward a window. Shadow play.
Class 2 — Scripture & Teaching
Read John 8:12. Darkness is real; Jesus does not mock it. He comes near with light.
Class 3 — Creation Response
Make a Sun Catcher Cross to hang in a window — light passing through a simple cross of color.
Signature take-home
Sun Catcher Cross
- Cut a simple cross frame (cardboard or craft sticks).
- Fill with tissue or recycled clear plastic in golds and greens.
- Hang in a sunny window.
- Each morning: “Jesus, You are the Light.”
Parent tips
Talk about how the sunflower turns toward light. We turn toward Jesus the same way.
Journal: Draw where light falls in your house. One thanks for a kind light this week.
