Unit 05 · May
Gardens, Soil & Parables
The Sower still walks the rows
Scripture & Jesus with us
“Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop.”
— Matthew 13:8Jesus tells the parable of the sower. The Word is seed. Hearts are soil.
“A man reaps what he sows… Let us not become weary in doing good.”
— Galatians 6:7–9What we plant in secret becomes harvest in due season.
Three-class breakdown
Class 1 — Wonder & Observation
Feel four soils: hard path, rocky, weedy, and good. “Which would a seed love?” No shame — just noticing.
Class 2 — Scripture & Teaching
Read Matthew 13. Jesus is the Sower who keeps sowing generously. We cannot force fruit. We can tend soil.
Class 3 — Creation Response
Build a Parable Planter Box with four sections — or one good-soil pot if space is small. Plant the same seed in each and watch.
Signature take-home
Parable Planter Box
- Four small cups or one divided box: packed, rocky, weedy, and loose good soil.
- Plant the same seed in each.
- Water equally. Watch which thrives.
- Talk about what “good soil” looks like in a heart this week.
Parent tips
Never use the parable to scold a child. Jesus is generous with seed. Ask: “What helps our hearts stay soft?”
Journal: Which cup is growing? One sentence about a kind word planted this week.
