Lesson 08 · 15–20 minutes · 5–12 years

Stars, Sun, and Moon – Lights in the Sky

Supplies

  • Children’s sunflower cups
  • Optional: simple star stickers or a picture of the night sky

Opening

2–3 minutes

“Look at the sky! Our sun helps the sunflowers grow. Today we talk about the lights God placed in the sky — the sun, the moon, and the stars.”

Interactive Teaching

7–8 minutes

Read Genesis 1:14–19 and Psalm 19:1.

“God made the sun, moon, and stars on Day 4. ‘The heavens declare the glory of God.’ The sun gives light and warmth so plants can grow. The moon and stars shine at night. There are so many stars — more than we can count — yet God knows each one.”

“The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.”

— Psalm 19:1

Hands-On Activity

5 minutes

If daytime, talk about how the sun feels warm on the skin and helps the plant (never stare directly at the sun). If possible, plan a simple evening star-watch with parents. Or make a simple star craft and write the verse on it.

Closing

2 minutes

God made the vast universe and tiny you. He loves you. Every time you see the sun or a star, remember that the same Creator is watching over you and making your sunflower grow.

Closing prayer

Lead the children, having them repeat after you.

Dear God,

Thank You for the stars and the sun that show Your glory.

Thank You for knowing us and loving us.

Help us notice Your lights in the sky.

Amen.

Take-home sheet

What I learned

God made the sun, moon, and stars. The heavens declare His glory. He knows every star and He knows me by name.

Care for the sunflower

  • Keep watering and watching
  • Notice how the plant turns toward the light

Verse to remember

“The heavens declare the glory of God.” — Psalm 19:1

My job this week

Look at the sky (day or night) and thank God for the lights He made.

Parent note

If possible, step outside at dusk or after dark for a short star look. Talk about how big the sky is and how personal God’s care is.

Private to this device. Names of children stay with you — we do not send this anywhere.
