Lesson 11 · 15–20 minutes · 5–12 years

Caring for Creation – Our Role as Stewards

Supplies

  • Children’s sunflower cups
  • Optional: a small bag for picking up litter if outdoors

Opening

2–3 minutes

“We’ve seen God make plants, animals, the weather, the stars, and us. Today we talk about our job — to care for the world God made.”

Interactive Teaching

7–8 minutes

Read Genesis 1:28 and Genesis 2:15.

“God told us to rule over and care for creation. He put the first man in the garden ‘to work it and take care of it.’ Stewardship means taking care of something that belongs to someone else. The earth belongs to God, and He trusts us to care for it.”

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.”

— Genesis 2:15

Hands-On Activity

5 minutes

Care for the sunflower together (water if needed, check the soil). Or do a short outdoor clean-up of a small area. Or make a simple “I can care for God’s world” drawing.

Closing

2 minutes

We are stewards. God loves His creation and us. Every small act of care — watering a plant, picking up trash, treating animals kindly — is a way of saying thank You to the Creator.

Closing prayer

Lead the children, having them repeat after you.

Dear God,

Thank You for entrusting us with Your world.

Help us care for it with glad and careful hearts.

Thank You for the sunflower that has taught us so much.

Amen.

Take-home sheet

What I learned

God made us to care for His world. Caring for my sunflower is a little picture of that bigger job. We are stewards.

Care for the sunflower

  • Keep watering and protecting it
  • Thank God while you care for it

Verse to remember

“The Lord God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.” — Genesis 2:15

My job this week

Do one kind thing for God’s world (water the plant, pick up a piece of trash, be gentle with an animal).

Parent note

Talk about stewardship in simple words: “This world belongs to God, and He trusts us to take care of it.” Connect it to the plant the child has been tending.

Private to this device. Names of children stay with you — we do not send this anywhere.
