Fish and the Waters – Life in the Sea

Supplies

  • Children’s sunflower cups
  • Optional: simple pictures of fish or ocean life, or a bowl of water

Opening

2–3 minutes

“Water and fish! On Day 5 God filled the seas with living creatures. Today we look at the life God placed in the waters.”

Interactive Teaching

7–8 minutes

Read Genesis 1:20–22.

“God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing that moves in the waters. Fish have gills so they can breathe underwater. Many have special swim bladders that help them float. The oceans are vast, yet God knows each fish and provides for them.”

“God created the great creatures of the sea and every living thing with which the water teems…”

— Genesis 1:21

Hands-On Activity

5 minutes

If available, look at pictures of fish or a simple aquarium. Talk about one special design (fins, scales, eyes). Or do a simple water-related observation with the plant: “Water is the same gift God uses for both fish and seeds.”

Closing

2 minutes

God cares for sea life and for you. Every time you see water or a fish, remember the Creator who made both the ocean and the little seed in your cup.

Closing prayer

Lead the children, having them repeat after you.

Dear God,

Thank You for the waters and the fish.

Thank You that You designed them perfectly.

Thank You for caring for us, too.

Amen.

Take-home sheet

What I learned

God filled the waters with living creatures. He designed fish perfectly and cares for them — and for me.

Care for the sunflower

  • Water carefully
  • Notice how water helps the plant live

Verse to remember

“God created the great creatures of the sea…” — Genesis 1:21

My job this week

When I see water (or a fish picture), thank God for the life He put in the seas and for caring for me.

Parent note

If you have a chance, look at a picture of ocean life or a local pond. Talk about how the same God who made the seas also waters the little seed in the cup.
