God Created the Animals – Amazing Designs

Supplies

  • Children’s sunflower cups
  • Optional: pictures of animals, simple animal toys, or a short outdoor look for birds/insects
  • Animal tracks handout (included)

Opening

2–3 minutes

Gather the children with their sunflower cups.

“Last time we talked about how we are all different but made in God’s image. Today we get to look at the animals God created on Days 5 and 6. God filled the seas with fish, the skies with birds, and the land with amazing creatures. Isn’t it wonderful how God made so many kinds?”

Interactive Teaching

7–8 minutes

Read Genesis 1:20–25 together (or summarize gently).

“God said, ‘Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth.’ Then God made the livestock, the creatures that move along the ground, and the wild animals. And God saw that it was good.”

“Look at the designs God gave them. Birds have hollow bones so they can fly lightly. Fish have gills so they can breathe in water. Think about the birds we know — tiny hummingbirds that hover, eagles that soar, sparrows that sing. Each one has special features from God.”

“Just like with the seeds, God put instructions inside every animal so it grows exactly as He planned. He knows every detail. God talks to us through His Word in the Bible, showing us His love for all He made. He loves each of you so much — He knows the number of hairs on your head and knew you before you were born.”

“Ask the animals, and they will teach you… that the hand of the Lord has done this.”

— Job 12:7, 9

Hands-On Activity

5 minutes

Go outside for a short “noticing walk” or look at pictures/animal toys. Invite children to name one special design they see (wings, fur, fins, eyes). Use the animal tracks handout if you have it.

Or do a simple craft: draw a favorite animal and label one thing God designed carefully.

Ask: “How is caring for animals a little like caring for your sunflower?”

Closing

2 minutes

God made animals for us to enjoy and care for. Just like with your sunflower, we see God at work in creation. What animal amazes you most, and why?

Closing prayer

Lead the children, having them repeat after you.

Dear God,

Thank You for creating all the animals with such amazing designs.

Thank You for birds, fish, and land creatures.

Help us to see Your wonder in them and take good care of Your world.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Take-home sheet

What I learned

God made animals with special designs and purpose. He knows every detail and cares for them — and for me.

Care for the sunflower

  • Keep watering and giving it light
  • Notice how it is growing

Verse to remember

“Ask the animals, and they will teach you… that the hand of the Lord has done this.” — Job 12:7, 9

My job this week

Watch for one animal or bird outside. Thank God for one amazing design you notice.

Parent note

Take a short walk and point out animal designs (wings, fur, songs). Read Job 12 together if you like. Talk about how God knows and loves us personally.
